Steps to a Better Video

Before you start

1: Decide on an aim and angle - who your target audience is!

  • (The People who will watch it)

2: Equipment check

  • Batteries charged plus a spare?
  • Can your camera “talk” to your computer?
  • Got editing software and can you use it?

Plan

3: Working in a group? Nominate a coordinator and clearly define all roles

  • Director: runs the show and makes sure the video is taken properly
  • Camera man: shoots the video!
  • Presenter/actor: acts in front of the camera
  • Producer: edits the video

4: Specify time needed, ideal plan, and contingency plan

5: Do a dummy run.

  • Walk through the shots to be filmed!

Filming

6: Use cheat sheets for dialogue 

  • (Hold up the large script so the presenter can read it)

7: Use “action” and “cut” it is easier to edit later

8: Use a quiet room because background sound is picked up easily

Tidying it up

9: While editing, cut out problem areas and reshoot as necessary

10: Get feedback from your target audience
