· Audience: Remember, OnSET readers come in all shapes and sizes - we aren't an academic journal! So make sure you give enough explanation for a layperson to understand. Also, be careful not to use too much scientific jargon.
· Content: Try to focus on the most important parts of the science. Don't forget to explain the broader significance of scientific results, and please spare us the finer details of intricate experiments.
· Be concise: We are flexible with word limits, but do try to be short and sweet.
· Style: We encourage you to use a relaxed style of writing/presenting. Although it is important for your pieces to have some structure, they don't have to sound like essays! The key is to be clear and straightforward.
· Multimedia: If your submission contains images, footnotes, hyperlinks, special formats or other interactive items, let us know how you'd like to lay them out.
· References: You will need to reference your sources and acknowledge anyone who has helped you. Also, please make sure you are observing copyright guidelines for any images or multimedia that you include. If you're unsure, send us an email.
· Proofreading: Make sure you proofread and check the spelling of your text. But don't worry if you think your English is not good enough. We will fix the mistakes!
· Editing: Everything submitted to OnSET gets edited. So please don't be offended if we make minor changes to your pieces, or send them back with comments – this is standard practice in all major publications. We will include you in the editing process as much as we can.
