A Dance of light and shadow
Sky and Telescope, March 2005

The planets have always been of special interest to me, especially Jupiter and Saturn and their many moons. As this article was about Saturn and its rings I found it particularly interesting. I am also very interested in history and so the little bit of historical information about Galileo and astronomy 400 years ago, in the first two paragraphs of the article really perked my interest.

I thought that the article was very well composed. It has a very interesting title (sounds a bit like a fantasy novel) and this coupled with an awe-inspiring photograph really captures your attention. It is well-written and easy to follow as well as being concise and containing a few interesting facts.

I found this little article very informative, I learnt about the structure, composition and formation of Saturn’s rings, its moon Mimas, and about how photographs from space can tell us a lot about Saturn’s rings. I also liked the way that the writer described what we are seeing in the photograph.

I really liked this article because it was brief, and it included some really spectacular pictures, but mostly because I found it really interesting.
