Astronaut blasts lack of research into space

This article is a bit more political in its topic than other astronomy articles but it talks about a very important issue – the lack of funding for space research.

I agree with the opinion that Australia needs to put more funding not only just into space research but into science in general. Being a science student myself it is a matter that is very close to my own heart.

I also liked this article because it talks about the Australian astronaut Andy Thomas. He is someone that I really admire. I remember reading newspaper articles about him many years ago and thinking how great it would be to be in his position.

The article includes a little bit of a biography him, and mentions the space programs that he has been involved in. I thing that this is a really good thing because reading about the exciting things that a fellow Australian has done and achieved can inspire young people to study science.

Andy Thomas is also well known and so the use of his name could help to attract readers. The author has also made clever use of the word “blast” (often associated with astronauts and rocket ship takeoffs) in title. The author has also skilfully used emotive language such as ‘disappointment’, ‘tragedy’ and ‘lamented’ to convey the sentiment that the newspaper is trying to get across to the audience.

I thought that this was a very worthwhile article because it highlights some very important issues that some Australians might not have been aware of.
